Leaving Mormonism: Why Four Scholars Changed their Minds

Leaving Mormonism offers the expertise and personal experience of four ex-Mormon academics to explain why the Church of Latter-Day Saints proved to be intellectually and spiritually lacking to them and to others.

No previous book has pooled the collective wisdom of people who are former members of the Mormon church and who also possess the highest academic credentials. Far from rehashing tired apologetic arguments, this book presents fresh, thoughtful, respectful, and challenging insights. Speaking to both the heart and mind, the four contributors share their stories of leaving the LDS church and their well-considered reasons for doing so.

Unveiling Grace: The Story of How We Found Our Way Out of the Mormon Church Book

Unveiling Grace CoverUnveiling Grace is the story of a tenured professor eventually forced by conscience to resign from Mormon Church-owned Brigham Young University and to leave Mormonism. Lynn and husband Michael had joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a young married couple in 1977. They officially left thirty years later after raising four children--their sons had served missions and they had held leadership positions--in their once beloved Mormon faith. What happened?

The search for truth began when their third son, Micah, read the Bible while on his LDS mission, professed he was saved by the grace of Jesus alone, and was sent home by his Mormon church leaders to a whirlwind of family and Mormon culture turmoil. Micah’s courage incited others in his wake, to search for truth. His professor mother dared to read the New Testament as a child, to ponder, to reason, to consider, to study, to ruminate, to question, and to ask God to show her truth. The truth was not at all what she expected. Published by Zondervan, the book is currently in bookstores wherever books are sold.

Word of God

"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God; not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them."
Ephesians 2:8-10
